Department of Revenue Retools Correspondence with Citizens

JEFFERSON CITY - Smarter.  Leaner.  Savvier.  These three words describe how the Missouri Department of Revenue communicates with Missouri citizens.

Following Gov. Jay Nixon's call for a smarter, more efficient state government, the Missouri Department of Revenue has reviewed every form it produces, and cut the size of some; changed how others are mailed; and converted others to an entirely digital format.  These moves will save taxpayers almost $700,000 this year.

"Gov. Nixon ordered state government to work smarter, and that's exactly what the employees of the Department of Revenue are doing," said Alana M. Barragán-Scott, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue.  "Our employees do a tremendous job for the people of Missouri, and their creativity is making our government more efficient.  Under Gov. Nixon's leadership, we will continue to look for every opportunity to streamline operations and make government smarter."

Under this new initiative, the Department took several concrete steps to make corresponding with citizens more efficient and less costly.  The steps included: 

In total, these changes will save the taxpayers about $696,000.

"We have an obligation to manage every taxpayer dollar as strategically and wisely as possible," Barragán-Scott said.  "By cutting costs on printing and postage, we're saving money for the taxpayers and making government smarter.  These efforts are just one example of the many steps we're taking to make our operations more efficient."
