Aurora, California, Chillicothe, Kennett, Springfield & Ste. Genevieve Are Latest License Offices Put Up for Bid
The effort to implement Gov. Jay Nixon’s plan to make Missouri’s local motor vehicle/license offices more efficient, accountable and customer-friendly continued this week as the management contracts for six more offices were put up for bid.
“In the past, local license offices were largely given to people based on who they supported for governor,” Gov. Nixon said. “Under this new process, any person or group will be able to bid for the right to operate any license office. The winning bid will be the one who presents the best business plan, and politics will not play a role in who is selected.”
The six offices that have been put up for bid this week are Aurora, California, Chillicothe, Kennett, Springfield and Ste. Genevieve. There are three local license offices in Springfield, but the one that has been put up for bid this week is located in the Springfield State Office Building at 149 Park Central Square. Bidders will have five weeks (or until June 16) to respond to bid proposals administered by the Office of Administration (OA). Teams from the Missouri Department of Revenue will evaluate the bids.
Karen King Mitchell, director of the Department of Revenue, stressed that potential bidders should take the bidding process seriously.
“People who bid on these offices need to be as thorough as possible when completing the bid documents,” Mitchell said. “Incomplete or vague answers about customer service, financial stability or past experiences will result in a lower score from our review teams.”
Common transactions that take place at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver’s license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.
