Department of Revenue Gives Farmers Who File Electronically an Extension

JEFFERSON CITY –The Missouri Department of Revenue (Department) announced today that Missouri farmers who electronically file their Missouri income tax return, federal income tax return and federal Form 4136, Credit for Federal Tax Paid on Fuels, have been granted an extension until March 10, 2008, to file and pay their 2007 Missouri income tax.

This follows the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) announcement advising taxpayers filing Form 4136 that they must wait until March 3, 2008, to electronically file the revised form. To ensure Missouri farmers have sufficient time to complete and file their returns, both the IRS and the Department have extended the due date.

This action affects only those Missouri farmers who would typically file their Missouri income tax return by March 1st to receive an exclusion from making estimated tax payments.  Farmers who are not filing federal Form 4136, or who file a paper return, must file and pay by March 3, 2008, to receive the exclusion.

Payments can be made electronically at: http://www.dor.mo.gov/tax/personal/payonline.htm or can be mailed to the Missouri Department of Revenue, Post Office Box 385, Jefferson City, Missouri 65105-0385.
