IRS Form Required When Licensing Trucks Over 54,000 Pounds
JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Revenue (department) today announced that as the deadline approaches for renewing truck license plates for trucks over 54,000 pounds, proof of payment or exemption from federal heavy vehicle use tax is required.
In an effort to provide the best customer service, the department is advising its customers that to avoid renewal delays they must bring Schedule 1 to Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, stamped received by the IRS with them when they come in to renew their license plates. Contract offices have notified the department that many of their customers are neglecting to bring their Schedule 1 to Form 2290 when coming in to renew and this has caused delays in the renewal process.
If customers have any questions about what to bring to their contract office when renewing trucks over 54,000 pounds they may e-mail their questions to mvbmail@dor.mo.gov . The schedule of fees can be found on the department’s web site at http://dor.mo.gov/mvdl/motorv/forms/5113.pdf. Registrations on these commercial motor vehicles are valid until the last day of February.
